Failing to Cook the Turkey for the Right Length of Time

If you’re planning on serving turkey as your main course for your Thanksgiving dinner, you need to be certain that you have a meat thermometer handy, as this will tell you exactly when it’s the best time to take the turkey out of the oven and serve it. Check that the meat has reached 170°F within the inner thigh, and check that the juices are running clear, in order to be sure your guests won’t become ill from eating undercooked meat.

Instead, thaw the food in the microwave or the refrigerator first. Alternatively, you can thaw your food in cold water that’s changed every half hour.

Failing to Put Away Leftovers

Even after you’re done cooking your Thanksgiving feast, you need to be sure that you put your leftovers away promptly. Leaving them out on the counter for more than two hours could result in harmful bacterial growth.
